Philosophy
The Cox TechniqueNamed after its developer, James M. Cox DC DACBR, Cox Technic Flexion Distraction and Decompression is a gentle, non-force chiropractic adjusting approach. 63.7% of chiropractic physicians report using flexion-distraction in their practices. Lee Hazen D.C. offers this highly-effective spinal manipulation and decompression technique, a combination of chiropractic and osteopathic principles. This combination offers a non-surgical alternative to a more intrusive surgery for relief of pain in the neck, arm, back and leg, especially for the 1 in 4 patients who are 95% of the cost of healthcare dollars for back pain: the disc herniation and stenosis cases. Cox Technic's effectiveness for these more complex conditions makes it a great approach for less complex conditions of back and neck pain as well.
What to expect
Whether you prefer gentle "light" adjustments, or traditional "diversified" adjustments, Dr. Hazen utilizes the full range of care. This often includes the Cox Technique which is the most researched and safe treatment in chiropractic today. The spinal and extremity adjustments are geared to your body and your preference. Many people have found what works for them with other chiropractors. Others have had too much or too little treatment. Treatment in our office is a blend of old and new for the maximum relief possible, and always with your safety and health in mind. This starts with the best examination and diagnosis prior to any treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions...
How can Chiropractic help me?
Chiropractic can assist you by working with you and your other health care professionals (M.D., and D.O.) by maintaining your spine in proper alignment. Every organ in the body is under some type of neurological (nerve) control, so does it not seem sensible that if nerve impulses do not get to the organ its function is going to be compromised?
What is an adjustment?
The gentle correction of a subluxation manually or device to relieve the pressure on the nerves and thereby normalize proper function and optimize health. What are the main causes of subluxations? 1. Physical Traumas such as slips, falls, whiplash, repetitive motions, bad posture, back packs, and birth traumas (delivery, forceps, suction); 2. Emotional Stress such as grief, anger, fear and depression; 3. Chemical Imbalance such as increased alcohol use, drugs, environmental issues and poor diet can cause subluxations.
Can I adjust myself?
No. Some people may make their joints “pop” and think they've made an adjustment. Wrong! Damage can occur by “self manipulating” a joint with weakened muscles and ligaments. Adjustments are specific and require the skill of a professionally trained doctor of chiropractic to administer. Even your chiropractic doctor must consult a colleague to personally benefit from chiropractic care. What if I do not respond to chiropractic? The consultation and examination are necessary to determine if chiropractic can help your condition. If not, you may be referred to another specialist who might be able to help. In any event, your health and happiness are our primary goal.
