What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?
The opening of TCIM could not have come at a better time. The uncertainty of the future of healthcare in America combined with the frustration from those that are fed up with the current and proposed ObamaCare delivery system has left millions searching for an alternative. People are searching for something better and don't want to be "forced" into a plan they don't want. They don't want to be told where to go for their healthcare and they don't feel that they have many options available to them anymore. The good news is...ObamaCare does give people an option. In fact, one of the lesser known provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act can be found in Section 1301 (and amendment Section 10104). This provision allows for direct primary care to compete with traditional health insurance options in the mandated Health insurance exchange when combined with a low cost high deductible plan.
The BEST news is that TCIM is going to begin offering Direct Primary Care (DPC) to patients as soon as they open their doors! This is exciting news and is sure to create a high demand for TCIM and Dr. Lundquist’s services. What is Direct Primary Care? DPC is not an insurance plan. It is actually intended to remove many of the financial barriers of healthcare that prohibit doctors from really helping their patients. There are no insurance co-pays, deductibles or co-insurance fees thus avoiding the overhead and headaches of doctors having to maintain relationships with insurance companies and limiting their abilities to practice medicine. Patients will pay a fixed monthly subscription fee which covers all of their primary care needs and DPC gives them access to a set of comprehensive medical services. DPC will give people the chance to establish an actual “relationship” with their doctor and give them the freedom to become an educated consumer of their healthcare.
They will know how much things cost and DPC eliminates the unknown when it comes to healthcare costs. It creates a transparent relationship between you and your doctor. Can you imagine actually having a relationship with your doctor? It’s so exciting! DPC alone will not cover a patient’s catastrophic health care such as emergency services and most surgeries. Typically patients will combine a direct primary care arrangement with a high-deductible health plan available on the exchanges, a health savings account, or health reimbursement account. TCIM hopes to open the doors late in 2014, but will begin to build their online presence over the next few months.
