Coconut Yogurt and Amazing Tandoori Marinade
Yogurt has many benefits, mostly due to its rich probiotic content. Brands of yogurt that contain billions of live active cultures may support digestion, and some research indicates it could even benefit the skin.
Raw, unpasteurized yogurt is ideal if you can handle dairy.
However, if you are trying to skip dairy altogether, you can find alternative yogurt options at many stores these days, some of which are made from coconut and almond milk. Be sure you’re choosing yogurt that contains live active cultures, and try to choose plain, full-fat versions in order to avoid sugar.
Yogurt that contains sugar can be counterproductive, as sugars feed pathogenic bacteria and contribute to sugar overload.
Today's recipe features an easy homemade coconut yogurt - one that may be consumed on it's own or used as a marinade base, such as with a Tandoori Chicken recipe, which we've also included here.
From the Phytonutrient Spectrum Food List, coconut is part of the "white / tan / brown" color family.
It is a healthy, plant-based saturated fat that can be used in a multitude of ways from consumption to hair and skin care. In our focus on gastrointestinal health, the cultured and probiotic-rich nature of coconut yogurt may help to inoculate the gut, promoting a healthy immune system - perfect for cold and flu season!
